Have you been feeling a little off lately? Agitated, anxious, or uncertainty about how to move forward, maybe a bit hyper like you're all over the map? This happens a lot in the summer because it's a time of go go go, little routine, late nights, and more contact with others. You are like a sponge sucking in the energy from all you come into contact with, from people to electronic devises. Like the old saying "you are what you eat." You will be come what you "feed" yourself. You are mentally feeding your soul everyday in every way. How can we find balance and simple relief? It can be as simple as standing outside in the grass! Let's talk more about energy and how you can ground on your own at the end of a busy day.
To ground is to establish, root, or build a strong base.
I've had a steady stream of clients coming to me feeling super drained, confused, uncertain about where to go or what to do next. They feel brain fogged or like they are in the clouds. They need something or someone to pull them down. When you feel like this, it means your energy is off, and your need to reconnect it, you need to ground. When talking about a energetic grounding we are talking about pulling our natural moving energy back down through the body stabilizing the currents to aid the body in functional energetic flow. The concept of this powerful life force energy has so existed outside the framework of modern Western medicine. But now scientists and doctors and other people involved in the medical community are do in more research to the mind body connection.
Ancient civilization understood that this life force energy flow through the body supporting optimal development, the Chinese identify this energy as chi (ch-ee)
To understand this I feel I need to regress a bit.
Our human body’s contain energy currents flowing through us. We are made up of energy vibrating kind of like the energy that that flows through wires and currents to conduct energy to light a lightbulb for instance. The energy flows in our body systematically to create a function. Tiny electrical light impulses called biophotons (bio meaning life & photons meaning light) carry sparks that allows all cells to communicate with one another telling our body to do all it does! Look up biophotons to learn more, it’s fascinating!
When I was in training with my Reiki teacher Libby Barnett she taught me of this energy she called quantum energy, Quantum physics has demonstrated that all substance is composed of energy fields and how a Reiki practitioner can help others as a conductor of this energy moving it to different places in the body to heal and clear the little “kinks” in the flow so that our energy can move more productively so the body can work at its best ability to help and heal.
Now for the grounding part!
Everything we come into contact with on any given day, and now a days we are constantly on the go. Interacting with technology, people, maybe work or family stuff. Anything, negative or positive effects our energy. As our energy is expelled or bounced around or used, we start to feel overwhelmed. HSP (Highly sensitive people) feel this on a really deep level. It will feel like really negative vibrations like anxiety, irritability, brain fog, fatigue, and depression. We need to bring our energy back to its desired state. If you're a wellness worker this should be a daily practice for you, maybe even a few times a day. So how do we do this?
Go outside in nature any patch of grass that you feel comfortable around will do, take your shoes off fan your toes and stand tall.
Take some cleansing breathes and stand for a bit in a easy mountain pose.
Hinge at the waist and let your self hang for a bit like a rag doll.
Rise back up and bring you arms up to the sky. Taking calming supportive breathes and imagining the energy light inside of you rooting down to the ground.
You will shortly feel a ease in tension. If you can, take time to do this everyday.
You can do it in your own yard, the beach, a park. Anywhere you feel comfortable. Whenever you feel your energy is thrown off.
In severe cases you might feel the need to work with a energy practitioner to aid you. There are many different modalities of energy work. I am a Reiki II practitioner myself, I'm in my third year of practicing and will be obtaining my Reiki Masters this Fall. Find something or someone that you feel comfortable and connected to. That person will work with you to get you feeling wellness in no time!
